African American Nurse claims to be fired because of her Race

An African America Nurse claims she was fired back in 2012 based on her colour (Race). She and her lawyer also claimed they have enough evidence to proof their claim. The Jury handling the case has ordered for a proper investigation to find out if nurse wheeler was fired based on four mistakes she made during a 12hour shift in ICU unit of Medstar Georgetown University Teaching Hospital or as a claimed by the hospital. Wale Nurses to influence Nursing Staffing decisions

A bill which is at its third and final reading in the Welsh house will empower registered nurses to make staffing decisions in their various hospitals rather than the nursing agencies. This comes as a result of the current nurse to patient ratio which clinical nurses have in most cases augured they should be the one who have the first hand experience of what it should be. A breakthrough for nursing Research!

The Institute for Nursing Research and Practice of the Paracelsus Medical University in Salzburg has been designated as a WHO Collaborating Centre. On 12 January 2016, WHO Director General Dr Margaret Chan appointed ICN Board member, Professor Jürgen Osterbrink, as Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing Research and Education with a focus on Health Care Research in particular on Palliative Care.  More about this to come stay tuned!!

Howard Catton appointed the ICN Consultant on Socio-economic issues

The International Council of Nurses (ICN) announced on January 14th 2016 announced the appointment of Howard Catton as the new ICN Nurs ing and Health Policy Consultant focusing primarily on socio - economic issues (SEW) . Howard is currently Head of Policy and International Affairs at the Royal College of Nu rsing (RCN) , UK. He will take up his new position at ICN in April 2016.  Mr Howard speaking after the appointment said "I am delighted to be joining ICN at a time of both significant challenge and opportunity for the nursing profession around the world,” said Howard Catton. “By improving the working lives of nurses we also enhance the safety and quality of care for patients.
